Chalobah Set to Step in for Marc Guehi in England Selection

Chelsea defender playing for England

The Chelsea star emulated his brother Nathaniel in playing for England, becoming the 21st pair of siblings to be selected for the national team.

Trevoh Chalobah is set to join up with the Three Lions selection to replace unavailable Crystal Palace centre-back Marc Guehi.

The 26-year-old footballer is due to join the national side for England's final World Cup qualifiers against Serbia and Albania, but it has still not been made public.

The England team have already secured qualification for next summer's tournament.

Chalobah received his maiden invitation under England head coach Thomas Tuchel in the month of May and then earned his first cap against Senegal.

In September, Tuchel remarked Chalobah was unfortunate to be omitted from the squad for qualifying games against Serbia and Andorra, and also did not select him for the following October matches.

Tuchel has been an important presence in Chalobah's career, having given him his Chelsea debut in the year 2021.

Chalobah has appeared in all but four fixtures for Chelsea in the current campaign, with the club in third place in the Premier League, in the Carabao Cup last eight and in the group stage of the Champions League.

Guehi sustained a foot problem in Crystal Palace's Conference League win over AZ Alkmaar last week.

There are set to be further call-ups to the selection. Newcastle head coach Eddie Howe has announced that both winger Anthony Gordon (hip) and shot-stopper Nick Pope (a concussion) are set to pull out from the squad.
