The Prosecution have downgraded several severe indecent assault allegations against veteran broadcaster and one-time Wallabies coach the accused following a court hearing on Thursday.

The defendant currently confronts twenty seven counts which allege that he groped nine men during a twenty-year span.

Multiple allegations of grave indecent behavior - deemed more serious as they reportedly concerned those within his influence - were reduced this Thursday. A number of allegations were also dropped altogether.

The prominent 84 year old broadcaster has denied all charges and the case - which will now be heard by a judicial officer, without a jury - will be heard again next month.

Presiding Magistrate Sharon Freund stated that there was a revision of the proceedings subsequent to two complainants withdrew, though there was no clarification regarding why they were no longer part of the case.

The accused is charged with 25 counts of sexual misconduct and a pair of charges of sexual touching.

His lawyer the defense counsel told the court the dropped charges were a "major turn" and "significant concession," according to news accounts.

"There is no indication that... he wielded these complainants in his authority. He did not have power over these complainants," Mr Wrench stated.
