The former president alleged a journalist from Australia media representative of "harming the nation" after being questioned about his corporate ventures during occupying the presidency.

The leader was questioned by John Lyons representing the Australian Broadcasting Corporation on the topic of to what extent richer his fortune had grown following returning to the presidency in January.

"It's unclear," Trump responded, noting his sons and daughters handled the family enterprises. "I believe, you're hurting your country very much currently, and they want to maintain good relations with me."

He added Trump would have talks with the leader of Australia Albanese "very soon", commenting: "I'm going to tell him concerning your behavior. You set a negative atmosphere."

As the journalist tried to pose a follow-up inquiry, Trump placed a finger to his lips prior to saying "quiet" before moved away to engage toward a separate journalist.

For months, Albanese had been seeking talks together with the American leader after scheduled discussions between them got called off with little notice when Trump left the international gathering this past June ahead of schedule to deal with the war in that region.

He – and he plans to be stateside for the international summit in the coming days – stated on ABC radio on Monday that both leaders would "see each other at the event".

"The president is organizing a reception next Tuesday evening. Additionally, we'll see each other throughout several meetings that are taking place between now and year's end."

Lately, ties between the nations are tense after the Trump administration announced an assessment of the Aukus pact, an important submarine deal worth A$368bn involving the US, UK and Australia that was agreed upon previously.

In April, the country furthermore subjected to a tariff minimum a tenth on all exports to the US, a move that the PM labeled as "not the act of a friend".

The journalist commented following the sharp response from Trump that it was a ridiculous idea that posing reasonable queries politely would hurt ties between the long-time allies.

"In my view, it seemed a routine step to pose inquiries that I don't think were provocative," he stated to the network, stating his questions were reasonable, drawn from investigation and not posed in a disrespectful way.

The broadcaster mentioned the queries belonged to a probe through their news segment looking into his corporate ventures after returning to office.

Soon after the tense encounter, a digital update from a verified presidential channel displaying the response included the text: The president "dismisses a disrespectful overseas misleading press loser".
